HO SCALE: Arizona Eastern Railroad

This design has an interesting back story and was the result of almost a year of planning and research of the prototype Arizona Eastern Railroad. The original plan was to be built in On30, and the owner eventually decided to drop the centre peninsula and go with a layout just around three of the walls, plus the staging.

In my version of the design, I kept the peninsula and also expanded the design around a 12' x 19'-6" room, and I also converted the plan to HO scale. The design was intentionally kept barren to represent the wide open space of the area depicted. The mainline runs from Ray Jct; thru Hayden Jct, Winkelman, and Finney; and ends at Christmas Mine. The smelter complex in on a branch line from Hayden Jct.

Hi, Nice layout. My comment is how does the smelter complex get to the helix? Does the track continue under the brown building by the power house or does it go behind it? Some dotted lines would help with that.

Hi Tom, glad you pointed that out ... it is very hard to tell from the track plan but the power house is build on a hillside. If you look at the upper left corner closest to the helix you will see a turnout hidden under the scenery ... the track then goes thru the building and exits at the bottom right hand corner of the power house. I really should have made that a lot clearer.
