This transition era HO scale layout was designed for a client that wanted a proto-freelanced layout based on NYC's Kanawha Branch in West Virginia. My client requested that I include Walther's Diamond Coal mine, and other mining related support industries in the design...

Back in March of 2018, I offered another member of Facebook group that I belong to some ideas for his modest shelf space. He was very interested to see what I could come up with for his 15" x 9' space, and the result was this design for a standalone industrial park layout. I liked track plan so much that I decided to mock it up...

Back in November of 2018, I was asked by a client to design a proto-freelanced single station layout based on the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina or Linville River Railway set in the 1920s. It was to be done in On30 scale with a footprint of 12"x96", and would also include a 30" long staging cassette...

This was one of my entries in a design challenge that was hosted on a Facebook group where I am a member. The challenge was to create a prototypical HO standard gauge micro layout in only 4-square feet. The admin of the group was looking for American prototypes, but being from Canada, I decide to enter my Canadian version of the...

This design was just completed for a member of a the Railroad Line Forums, who was looking for some inspiration for a small layout project he was considering. The design depicts the small rural station of Werley (WI) on the Chicago & North Western RR's "Dinky Line". Although the diagram below is not entirely accurate, it is a simple rendition of the...

This HO-scale design was done for a client that wanted a small layout that he could practice his skills on before attempting a larger layout. He wanted a design that included as many aspects of modeling in a small space as I could possibly squeeze in. Initially, he only wanted to use a 12-inch x 60-inch board, but I convinced him to move up...

This design was done for a member of a Facebook small layout group, who was trying to decide between a small switching layout in G-scale, or a traction layout done in O-scale. Of course, I like a good challenge, so offer to mock something up in G-scale for him. This was actually my first attempt at designing something in G-scale for...

Back in March of 2018, I was asked by a member of small layout design group to design a layout to fit on a 16" x 80" hollow core door with the setting for the layout being an end of a branch line mill town. The layout would be set in the transition era from the late 40's to early 60's with 40-foot freight cars and small steam...

This design was done back in May of 2017 for a member the Railroad Line Forums. At the time, the owner was trying to come up with a layout to fit in his 30" x 60" space, and he was looking for some suggestions. He wanted to model the Central Pacific/Southern Pacific, and hope to have a design that would be accurate for his late-1800s era.

This modern era HO scale switching layout was designed for a member of the Micro/Small Model RR Layouts and his freelanced Morrow County Railway set in north central Ohio. The owner wanted the plan to include a grain elevator, a corn syrup facility, and lumber yard. He planned to hand lay his track using Micro Engineering code...

This is the first design I posted as a new member of Micro/Small Model RR Layouts back in March 2018. The design is based on a fictional industrial park, and I was able to shoe-horn a lot of modern operations into the 14" x 96" space. I really like the unusually track work with the crossing, and the track entering the fertilizer and...

Along with posting my track plans to this blog, I am also going thru my old structure files and trying to upgrade them to my current standards. This morning I found an old file that contained some rough measurement for a brick building that would make a good 1950's era factory or manufacturing company. The 2-story building measures 24-feet by 72-feet and...

Back in October of 2019, a client asked if I could design a modern switching layout for him in his very limited space. He then proceeded to say that he wanted a layout to fit in his 2x4-foot space, and he was wondering what I could do with it. Now, if you know me, I am always up for a challenge, but I also knew that such a space was...

This 1920 era HO scale layout was designed for a member of the Micro/Small Model RR Layouts Facebook group and his freelanced Armadillo Lumber Company set in east Texas. The owner only wanted the layout to include a sawmill with log pond and a engine repair house. However, as you can see, I kind of expanded a bit on the theme. Since I have...

This design was done for a member of the Micro/Small Model RR Layouts Facebook group, and is an N-scale version of the Humboldt Industrial Park served by the Reading Blue Mountain & Northern RR (RBMN) in eastern Pennsylvania. While the industrial park is a fair size, the layout owner was able to narrow his selection of companies down...
