HO SCALE: Canadian National (Sydney Sub)

This is a small proto-based switching layout designed for a friend of mine back in November of 2014, to fit his 12'6" x 6'0" room. The layout was based on Jefferson which was is located on the Sydney Subdivision of the Canadian National. The time frame was set in the 1980s before the secondary mainline was sold to the Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway.

Since the bench work was reused from a previous layout my friend owned, I had no control over that part of the design and had to design the layout to fit the 24" wide shelves with a 24" aisle. However, the layout still offered plenty of switching action and also lots of room for scenery and some fairly decent sized structures.

While I would like to have added staging, the layout owner insisted that the 2 storage tracks were enough and planned to fiddle the cars on and off the layout. If I were to building the plan for myself, I would consider adding a 2 or 3 track staging yard along the unused east wall.
