HO SCALE: NYC Kanawha Branch

This transition era HO scale layout was designed for a client that wanted a proto-freelanced layout based on NYC's Kanawha Branch in West Virginia. My client requested that I include Walther's Diamond Coal mine, and other mining related support industries in the design.

He also wanted to include coke ovens at the mine site, but we couldn't find enough information to duplicate an appropriate plant for the era. The layout owner plans to use Atlas code 83 track and turnouts, and I was able to use #6s in all locations, except for the spur leading to the diesel storage tanks.

As the design stands now, I just used on staging cassette on the right end, but it would be easy to continue the mainline to the left by putting a slight curve in the straight section near the unloading ramp. As you can see, it was a challenge to duplicate the almost vertical scenery needed on a narrow shelf to portray the location, but I was able to rough something in.
