On30: Pubnico & Southside RR

This design was done back in February of 2018 for a member of the Railroad Line Forum. He was looking for a continuous run layout (with a few sidings) to fit on a 36" x 6'8" hallow core door in On30. Although the layout owner just wanted to watch the trains run around the loop, I also decided to allow for plenty of opportunity for some switching action as well.

I wanted to go with more of a common carrier feel influenced of course by the Maine 2-footers. I saw the train starting the day working the interchange at Pubnico, and once ready to depart, it tacked on a small caboose (with passenger seating) waiting in front of the station. And just like the operating scheme for my Central Alberta Railway design, I envisioned the train making several laps and serving industries spread out over several very small towns.

Once the train reached the western end of the line at the town of Southside, it would take the cutoff (near the pulpwoood yard) and head back eastbound to Pubnico, switching any industries missed on the westbound trip. Once in Pubnico, the caboose would be spotted at the station, and the other cars would be moved to the interchange track. Once the work was completed in Pubnico, the crew would tie up for another night.
